Beautiful Berlin

The capital city of Germany, Berlin, has great tourist attractions from the educative, recreational and business points of view. Its historic monuments, and palaces are as great as its unique role as modern business centre of Europe and contemporary pleasures of relaxation and night life.

It is not a surprise that there are more than 100 big museums, apart from many private art galleries. You have what is referred to as Museum Island, a five buildings treasure house of knowledge on the culture of entire humanity, declared as a world heritage by UNESCO! Aites, Berlinische Galerie, Brohan Museum, Germandegalerie, Hamburger Bahnhof are but a few in the list. There are many museums devoted to a particular area of human activity. There are splendid libraries housing excellent reference works of more than three hundred years. Fine art, Aesthetics, Music and host of diverse human cultural strands have separate museums and in this respect Berlin is a paradise for specialists in different hues of culture. There are some very fine museums dedicated exclusively for contemporary artistic expressions as well.

Charlottenburg Palace and Park, Peacock Island, Gleneicke Palace, Sanssouci Palace, Babelesberg Palace are some of the graceful palaces which leave a lasting impression in your minds. Their aesthetic and sensuous appeal must be experienced to be believed. Constructed in the leisurely era of more time for everyone on earth, these reflect the sophistry and urbanity of German cultural glories. The imperial splendour of many palaces is but outward expressions of the inner imperial visions the rulers had.

Brandenburg Gate is a great landmark in Berlin combining the history and drive of the people. Drawing inspiration from Athenian Architecture, the present structure has its exuberance and magnificence. The changes in the political fortunes of the land were reflected in this as well. Napoleon took the Quadriga, a design atop the monument, to Paris as a prized possession of his victory but subsequently it was brought back. When the place was under communist regime of East Germany the place was replete with red symbols. When reunification took place the Berlin Wall which had been erected to divide the city’s political sovereignty was also pulled down.  The present Federal Parliament Building and a host of new mansions of exquisite architectural values are all feasts to eyes. Victory column, a historical piece constructed to commemorate victory of Prussia over Denmark got the image of a United Germany’s strength and valour.

There is plenty of shopping that can be done in Berlin. There are great shopping malls displaying wares from Germany and delectable items from different and distant parts of the earth. The business acumen of German people could easily be discerned from these great shopping centres.

The Regent, Mandala, Hotel Palace Berlin, Ellington Hotel, Movinpick are but some of the top hotels oozing with luxury and elegance. There are literally hundreds of hotels to suit the needs and the budget of different types of visitors. Business conferences, Youth get-togethers, conventions and the like for a few hundred or more could easily be arranged to facilitate the visiting delegates. Food and wine are conventionally so tasteful to make the visitor lengthen his stay. Sometimes pleasure trips can be arranged through cruise in the river. Parks and open spaces in different districts add further charm.

Transport is no problem in Berlin. Apart from public transport system which is gathering momentum, the visitor has an array of choices in the form of luxury coaches, limos, taxis and for those with a love for that, bicycles as well.

Berlin is synonymous with hard work, discipline, balanced approach to problems and attention to recreation as well. A visit to Berlin not only invigorates you mentally but makes you feel physically stronger as well.
