Budapest

Budapest a city you will admire

Budapest, the capital city of Hungary is one of the most beautiful cities of Europe. It has a hoary history and its locale on the banks of Danube adds to its charm. Some of its fine show pieces are recognised as World Heritage Sites. In the recent decades it has emerged as a great commercial hub as well. It has a nice blend of the past and present to offer to more than 20 million visitors who throng to it annually. Its history in the last 150 years shows a number of ups and downs. At the end of the First World War it got detached from Austro-Hungarian Empire. During the Second World War it faced the wrath of Soviet and German troops. Its large Jewish population faced hardships of genocide as nearly 40 of them were put to death. But even now it has a very large Jewish population. It was dominated by the Soviet bureaucracy during its communist stint. In the last two years it has revived itself dramatically and is considered as a live nation full of resilience.

There are some points from where a panoramic and magnificent view of the city’s beauty and elegance could be seen. Gellert Hill, Danube Promenade, Fisherman’s Bastion are some of the places from where the view would be wonderful. There is vastness, grace, beauty and serenity despite the ravages of war and suppression by alien forces.

The Holy Right Hand of the Found of the city, King St.Stephen, could be seen in St.Stephen’s Basilica. Castle Hill and Castle Districts are so great a treat to watch and tread and form principal tourist attraction. The entire area is steeped in serenity and peace. There is a statute of Turul, the guardian bird of the city. You should visit Mathias Church, Vigado Concert Hall, Saint Elisabeth Church and Vigado Concert Hall to understand the diversities of the strands and the unity that underlies in all which has made Budapest a dream please to live in or visit. Apart from the Museum of Fine Arts, a grand and painstaking centre for tracing the story of Fine arts there a number of other museums like the Hungarian National Museum and music halls which will give an idea of the cultural moorings of the people and European culture in general. There is an incredibly beautiful The Great Synagogue which is full of repose and bears testimony to the untiring work of the Jews.

One of the remarkable tourist spots is the presence of seven nice islands on the river Danube. Margaret Island contains a number of recreational places for the young and old alike. Luppa-ziget is the smallest of the lot but has its own charm. To be in the island for a couple of hours or more while the scenic beauties on either side is breathtaking, relaxing or having food or playing completely invigorates a tourist.

Szecheynel and Rudas baths are but two examples of Spas. The second has been in existence from the last quarter of the 16th century! For over four hundred years the many spas and baths in Hungary have attracted millions of tourists for pleasure and medicinal values.

There is a fine children’s train, apart from other novelties like trolleybus and Castle Hill Funicular.

There are a number of 5, 4, 3 star hotels in Budapest. Some of the well known hotels are Hilton Budapest, King’s Hotel, Star City Hotel, Buda Caste Hotel and others. There are also a number of hotels to suit the needs of different types of tourists. There are provisions for combining business and pleasure in a number of hotels.

Transport is no problem. From Luxury vehicles to limos arrangements can be made for a handful of passengers or a large group.

Food and wine are dainty and tasteful in Budapest. The hospitality of the restaurants is a byword in culture and understanding.

A trip to Budapest and its spas will invigorate you.
